Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Tickerscape (“Tickerscape,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you use the website and interactive map, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. Tickerscape is operated by Goldeneye Technologies LLC, a California limited liability company.

We have written this policy to the strictest of the privacy laws that may apply to our users — including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), the European Union and United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec’s Law 25, and Australia’s Privacy Act. Where those laws grant a right or protection, we extend it to all users regardless of where they live, even where a given law may not strictly apply to a service of our size.

Who we are

Tickerscape is an interactive map of public-company headquarters. The data controller responsible for your information is the operator named above. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@tickerscape.com.

Information we collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the service. We collect:

  • Server and security logs (automatic). When you load a page or request data, our servers record technical information such as your IP address, browser user-agent, the page or resource requested, and a timestamp. We use these logs to operate the site, diagnose errors, and detect and prevent abuse. They are retained for 90 days and then deleted or aggregated into non-identifying statistics.
  • Operational and usage telemetry. We use monitoring to measure performance and reliability (for example, error rates and response times) and to understand how the map is used in aggregate (for example, how often features such as search or the data table are opened). This includes cookieless analytics that runs in your browser: it sets no cookie, stores no identifier that could be used to recognize you on any other site, and we truncate the IP address, so it is not used to identify you or to build a profile of you. It stores nothing at all on your device — no record of your visits and no history of when or how often you have been here — so we cannot tell a returning visitor from a new one.
  • Feedback you send us. Feedback reaches us by email. If you write to us, we receive and keep your message and the address you send it from, in our mailbox, for as long as needed to handle it. We do not store feedback in a database and we do not currently offer a form that would let you send it anonymously; if you do not want us to have your email address, please do not email us.
  • Information stored in your browser. The map saves your workspace — such as your viewport, the cards you have open, and your color-palette choice — locally in your browser using localStorage (with an IndexedDB fallback). This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. You can clear it at any time with the “Clear saved data” link in the navigation menu or by clearing your browser storage.

Tickerscape does not require an account, and we do not ask for your name, address, or payment information. We do not knowingly collect special categories of sensitive personal information.

Cookies and similar technologies

Tickerscape does not currently set any cookie in ordinary use. Browsing the map and the pages of this site stores no cookie on your device at all.

The site keeps the ability to set a single strictly necessary, first-party session cookie, and sets it only where a feature genuinely requires one — today, only if you enter an access code while the site is in private beta. That cookie is set by Tickerscape itself, supports security functions such as cross-site-request-forgery protection, carries no identifier used to profile you, and does not track you across other websites. If we later add a feature that needs it more broadly (such as a form), it stays strictly necessary and this page will say so.

We do not display advertising, and we set no advertising cookies, no third-party cookies, and no cross-site trackers. Our usage analytics is cookieless, as described under “Information we collect” above: it sets no cookie, stores no cross-site identifier, and truncates the IP address.

The same goes for anything else we store on your device. Besides the cookie described above, the only thing Tickerscape keeps in your browser is the map workspace you yourself create — your viewport, the cards you have open, your color-palette choice. That is strictly necessary to provide the part of the service you asked for, it is not used for advertising, profiling, or tracking you across sites, and it is never sent to us. We store nothing on your device for analytics or measurement purposes.

Because everything we set is strictly necessary, there is nothing non-essential for you to consent to or withdraw consent from. You can still control cookies and site data through your browser settings, and clear the map workspace at any time with “Clear saved data”; blocking strictly necessary storage may break parts of the site.

Advertising

Tickerscape does not show advertising. We do not work with an advertising network, we do not share your information for advertising purposes, and we do not “sell” or “share” personal information for personalized advertising as those terms are used under California law. If this ever changes, we will update this policy and obtain any consent the law requires before doing so.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • provide, maintain, and improve the map and the website;
  • keep the service secure and detect, prevent, and investigate abuse and fraud;
  • respond to your feedback and any reply you ask for; and
  • comply with our legal obligations.

Legal bases for processing (EEA / UK)

If you are in the EEA or the UK, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the service and to understand how it is used, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent — where we ask for it. We do not currently rely on consent for cookies or for anything else stored on your device, because everything we store there is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for. Where we do ask, you may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation — where we must process information to comply with the law.

How we share information

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not share it with any advertising network. We share information only:

  • with service providers who host and operate the service on our behalf (for example, our cloud hosting provider, Microsoft Azure, and the email provider that carries messages you send to the address published on this page), under contracts that limit their use of the information;
  • when required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public; and
  • in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), subject to this policy.

Data retention

We keep server and security logs for 90 days. We keep feedback email for as long as needed to handle it and maintain a record of how it was resolved. Information stored in your browser remains until you clear it. We otherwise keep information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law.

International data transfers

Tickerscape is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA, the UK, or Canada, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or an equivalent lawful transfer mechanism.

Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law, all users — regardless of location — may exercise the following rights:

  • Know / access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate personal information;
  • Delete your personal information;
  • Port a copy of your information in a portable format;
  • Opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for personalized advertising — we do neither, so there is nothing to opt out of;
  • Restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
  • be free from discrimination for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any right, email us at privacy@tickerscape.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. Because we do not require accounts, we may not be able to associate server logs with a particular person; where we cannot verify your identity we will tell you and explain why.

California (CCPA/CPRA). California residents have the rights to know, delete, and correct personal information, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell or share personal information for personalized advertising, so there is no opt-out request to submit; if that ever changes we will provide a clear opt-out mechanism first. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

EEA / UK (GDPR). You have the rights listed above and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).

Canada / Quebec (PIPEDA & Law 25). You may access and correct your personal information and withdraw consent, and you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information.

Australia. You may access and correct your personal information and complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Children’s privacy

Tickerscape is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including transport encryption (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of Tickerscape after a change means you accept the updated policy.
